Gas Prices Rise as Crude Oil Climbs Above $90 per Barrel

SAN ANGELO, TX - The statewide gas price average in Texas is $3.71 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.

That price is 16 cents more when compared to this day last week and is 93 cents more per gallon compared to this day last year.

Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $3.96 per gallon while drivers in Tyler are paying the least at $3.57 per gallon. Drivers in San Angelo are currently paying an average price of $3.87 per gallon, which is 22 cents more than this time a week ago and $1.24 compared to this time last year.

The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $4.09, which is 15 cents more when compared to this day last week and 94 cents more when compared to this day last year.

While Texas remains below the $4 mark and among the nation’s least expensive gasoline markets, prices are climbing as volatility along the Strait of Hormuz and continued instability in the region push crude oil into the $90-per-barrel range. If crude prices remain elevated, drivers could see additional fluctuations at the pump during the second half of summer.

“Texas drivers are feeling another sharp increase at the pump as rising crude oil prices place renewed pressure on gasoline costs,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “The situation remains volatile, so motorists should expect prices to fluctuate and take advantage of tools that help them compare fuel prices and budget for upcoming trips.”

Drivers can use the AAA Gas Cost Calculator to estimate fuel expenses and create a road-trip budget based on their vehicle, destination and current gas prices.

I sure hope the shareholders for these oil companies are seeing their dividends. Sometimes I worry that they might not be getting all the money that should be coming to them.
