Stadium Lanes Rebrands as The Knickerbocker Social House

SAN ANGELO, TX — The longtime bowling center Stadium Lanes announced Tuesday it is rebranding the overall complex as The Knickerbocker Social House, also known as The Knick, while keeping its 20 bowling lanes in operation under the Stadium Lanes name. 

The change takes effect as of Sept. 1 at the venue at 2105 Knickerbocker Road. A new exterior sign is going up currently. 

Stadium Lanes opened June 2, 1962, with 24 lanes and expanded to 36 lanes in the early 1970s. Between 2024 and 2026, 16 lanes were removed to create space for a lounge, pub games and a forthcoming tenant, Wandering Mind Brewery. 

The remaining 20 lanes are USBC-sanctioned and will continue to operate as Stadium Lanes within the complex, the business said. Fleming’s Family Diner also remains on site. 

New amenities include a full-service bar and lounge, regulation billiards, tournament darts, golf simulators, shuffleboard, a private karaoke lounge and new restrooms. Pub games have already been in a soft-open period available to the public. 

The business said the name has a double meaning: the Knickerbocker Road address and a nod to 1838 and what it called America’s first bowling alley, beneath the Knickerbocker Hotel in New York City. The venue aims to blend a New York warehouse aesthetic with the midcentury character of the original Stadium Lanes. 

The Alexander family has owned and operated the center for more than six decades.
