SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo ISD will break ground next Tuesday on a new Glenn Middle School, beginning construction of a replacement campus funded by the district’s voter-approved Bond 2025 program.
The ceremony is set for 9 a.m. Oct. 13 at the existing school, at the corner of University Avenue and Johnson Street (pictured below). Guest parking will be available at the north end of the San Angelo Stadium home-side parking lot.
Glenn Middle School, built in 1967, serves about 1,200 students and is the largest middle school in the district. It was designed as an open-concept school and later modified with temporary walls to create individual classrooms. Nearly 60 years later, its classrooms, hallways, and program spaces no longer adequately support the campus’s enrollment and programs, district officials stated.
A recent facilities study found significant plumbing, HVAC, and electrical needs and concluded that renovating the building would cost more than constructing a new one. The campus also does not meet current Texas Education Agency classroom standards, and programs such as fine arts have outgrown spaces designed decades ago.
Bond 2025 calls for a new Glenn Middle School on the existing site, with modern classrooms and improved spaces for academic and fine arts programs. The project is part of the broader bond package voters approved to address aging facilities and improve learning environments across the district.
District leaders, students, staff, and community members are expected to attend. Families, alumni, and other supporters are invited.
