SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Hispanic Heritage Museum & Cultural Center will host its seventh annual Día de los Muertos festival Saturday at Bart DeWitt Park.
The festival is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 10 at 325 S. Oakes St. The event will feature a Catrina/Catrin/Alebrije contest, mariachi performances, luchador matches, a car show, fashion show, food trucks, craft vendors, free children’s crafts and adult beverage vendors.
The car show and festival will begin at 11 a.m., with Battala de Muertos scheduled from 11 a.m. to noon. Performances throughout the day include Danza de Oro, Prep Academy Dance Studio, Lincoln Middle School Mariachi, In Motion Dance Group, Lake View Mariachis, Danzates de Corazon, Lake View Chiefettes and Lincoln Royals.
A Leos Imports fashion show is scheduled from 3 to 4:30 p.m., followed by the Catrina/Catrin/Alebrije contest from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Rita Capuchina will perform from 7 to 7:45 p.m., followed by a procession along the river at 7:45 p.m.
The festival also will include a community altar and a second Battala de Muertos performance from 2 to 3 p.m. Piñata Hour is scheduled for 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Día de los Muertos traditionally is observed Nov. 1-2 as families and friends honor deceased loved ones through various customs and celebrations.
