Houston Texans Hire a Head Coach and Watson Requests a Trade

HOUSTON,TX – The Houston Texans have finally hired a new head coach.

David Culley will take over as the Texans head coach after Bill O’Brien was fired when the Texans started off the 2020 season 0-4.

Culley has 27 years of NFL coaching experience mainly as a wide receivers coach but had been the assistant head coach of the Ravens since 2019.

Culley will be starting off his head coaching career with a little drama as Deshaun Watson, quarterback of the Houston Texans, has requested a trade.

Watson reportedly asked to be traded weeks ago and a source has said Culley has not and will not try to change Watson’s mind.

There is a catch with trading Watson as he has a no-trade clause in his contract. Meaning that Watson and the Texans would have to agree if they were to trade him.

Houston does have a little leverage as they can fine Watson if he decides not to show for minicamp and training camp. If Watson decided to retire, the Texans could collect Watson’s salary for this upcoming season.

If traded, the Texans will have $21.6 million in dead money against the salary cap in 2021 and will obviously have to find a quarterback.

According to ESPN, Watson hasn’t talked with new GM Nick Caserio.
