Haskell Hires Big Country Athletic Legend to Lead Track Team

HASKELL, TX – One of the most decorated high school athletes in Texas history is the new head track coach at Haskell according to an announcement Monday.

Mindy Myers was hired by the Haskell Independent School District as head high school track coach.

This past track season, Haskell finished second at the state track meet.

Myers said, “I’ve gone into schools that needed rebuilt in the past and done a pretty good job of it. It’s a different challenge but I’m looking forward to it because I didn’t come here to get second place. And Coach (Missy) Burson did outstanding at Haskell. I’ve known her for years and years, she’s built a great program. But I’ve been to strength and conditioning several times this summer and those kids are workers. They’re workers. And they’re hungry. And that's going to make my job a tad bit easier. It may not make their job easier.”

According to the Munday Hall of Fame,  Myers has won several state championships in track, basketball, and cross country.

Myers considers the Big Country home.

“This is home for me. And our regional track meet all four years that I ran was at McMurry.” Myers said.
