Son of Legendary Basketball Star Suffers Cardiac Arrest

LOS ANGELES, CA — Bronny James, son of Lebron James and a basketball player at USC, suffered cardiac arrest on Monday and is now in stable condition. In a statement to the media, a spokesperson from the James family updated everyone on James’s condition and said what had happened.

“Yesterday, while practicing, Bronny James suffered cardiac arrest,” the spokesperson said. “Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital. He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU. We ask for respect and privacy for the James family, and we will update the media when there is more information.”

James, 18, recently began workouts for his freshman year at USC (University of Southern California). The team was set to start its summer basketball season overseas in Greece and Croatia. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a medical emergency in the 3400 block of South Figueroa Street at 9:26 a.m. PT on Monday and took an adult male to the hospital, a department spokesperson said.

Buffalo Bills’ safety Damar Hamlin, who collapsed on the field in a game against the Cincinnati Bengals in January, reached out to show his support for Bronny and the rest of the James family.

James was a part of ESPN’s top 100 recruits for the 2023 class. He was the 6th highest-rated point guard before he accepted his offer to play basketball at USC. His father, Lebron James, hopes to play with Bronny before he finally decides to hang it up. Lebron enters his 21st year in the NBA in 2023.

“LeBron and Savannah wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the USC medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes,” the James family spokesperson concluded.

Bronny James played his high school basketball at Sierra Canyon, where he averaged 13.8 points per game, 2.7 assists, and 1.8 steals. No one expects him to be his father moving forward, but Bronny is developing into one of the best young point guards in the country.

This is the second player at USC to suffer cardiac arrest since 2022. Bronny’s teammate, Vincent Iwuchukwu, passed out in July of last year. Iwuchukwu recovered, but the incident kept him off the court until January.
