No. 19 Angelo State Hosts UTPB for Homecoming

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The No. 19 Angelo State Rams host the University of Texas Permian Basin this Saturday at LeGrand Stadium in San Angelo. At his weekly press conference, Rams’ Head Coach, Jeff Girsch, talked about last week’s win and what he expects from the University of Texas Permian Basin this weekend for homecoming. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Last week, the Rams picked up a win on the road against Texas A&M Kingsville, defeating the Javelinas 38-16. Quarterback Gerald Gardner tossed three touchdown passes while running for another score while the defense finished with four interceptions in the game.

SERIES HISTORY: Angelo State vs. UT Permian Basin

  • All-Time Series: 6-0, ASU
  • Last Meeting: Sept. 17, 2022: 34-21, ASU
  • The Rams have not lost a game in the short history against the Falcons, winning the first six meetings since the 2016 season.
  • ASU averages 53.5 points per game against UTPB, with the largest margin of victory coming in 2019 at 65-7. The Rams defeated the Falcons on the road last year, winning 34-21.

  • The Falcons are having their best season in program history, holding a 6-1 overall record while going 4-0 in conference play heading into this weekend.
  • UTPB has earned LSC wins over West Texas A&M, the Javelinas, and Midwestern State while defeating Eastern New Mexico in their most recent game, 52-29.
  • The Falcons hold the second-best scoring offense in Division II with 50.3 points per game and rank fifth in total offense with 494.6 yards per game.
  • UTPB ranks second in the Lone Star in both points allowed (20.1) and yards allowed (258.7)
  • Falcons' quarterback Kenny Hrncir leads the conference with 1,747 passing yards and 16 touchdowns.
