Sting'em! Irion County Hornets Win Six Straight District Championship

 

MERTZON— The Irion County Hornets are district champs yet again!

On Tuesday, the Irion County Hornets beat the Robert Lee Steers to claim possession of their district and now have won it six straight times. The Steers were stung to the tune of 42-30 and The Mailman, Benard Xhemshiti, led Irion County in points with 11 followed by Wyatt Morris with 10. They were followed by Kron Xhemajli, also known as The Ghost of Kovoso, who scored eight then Tyler “Top Shelf” Henderson added seven to the scoreboard. Grady Jackson chipped in six points.

Canyon Moran led Robert Lee with nine points and the Sherwood Brothers scored seven apiece. Max Garcia and Wyatt Bosworth added five and two points respectively.The Steers are not an easy team to beat. They have a 23-9 record whereas the Hornets are 16-8 according to Maxpreps. Robert Lee will face the Eden Bulldogs on February 20, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. right here in San Angelo at Central High School.

The Hornets will play Panther Creek in Winters on Monday, February 19, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. Under head basketball coach John Morrow, the Hornets have been an absolute machine. On top of six straight district championships, they’ve gone 67-1 in district games in that time.
