San Angelo ISD Announces New Lake View HS Head Baseball Coach

 

SAN ANGELO, TX - San Angelo ISD and Lake View High School have announced Coach Tony Cortez as the new head baseball coach for the Chiefs. 

Coach Cortez has over 18 years of coaching experience, most recently serving as the Chiefs football offensive coordinator and assistant powerlifting coach.

“We congratulate Coach Cortez on being named head baseball coach at Lake View,” said San Angelo ISD Executive Director of Athletics Coach Rodney Chant. “It was clear in the hiring process that Coach Cortez has a passion for baseball and the Lake View Chief program. We look forward to the continued growth and success of the Chiefs in the future with Coach Cortez at the helm.”

Coach Cortez has previously served as a football, baseball, basketball, track, and powerlifting coach at Bangs, Farmersville, Big Spring, Hamlin, Sweetwater, and Dublin ISD, specifically coaching baseball at Dublin and Sweetwater.

He has led his baseball teams to success such as district champions, bi-district champions, area finalists, regional semi-finalists, and regional quarter-finalists. 

In addition to his time coaching, Coach Cortez also has personal athletic experience as a high school and college baseball player at Comanche High School and Howard Payne University. 

Coach Cortez has a Bachelor of Science in exercise sports studies and a minor in English from Tarleton State University.
