Rams Run the Table at South Central Regional Tournament with Perfect Weekend

GRAND JUNCTION, CO— The Angelo State Rams Baseball Team were perfect this weekend in the South Central Regional Tournament and are advancing to the Super Regional tournament.

After winning their matchup against West Texas A&M on ASU’s first ever triple play, ASU advanced to play Colorado Mesa. The Rams jumped on it early and handily beat the Mavs 15-8.

The Rams got on the board in the second inning, down one, with a Justin Harris two-run home run to take the lead, 2-1. Mesa hit a home run in the third to tie the game. With the game tied going into the bottom of the fourth, Harris hit another home run and the Rams broke the tie to go up 4-2. ASU wasn’t done as Jacob Guerrero hit a single to bring Hunter Holt in to make the score 5-2.

Top of the fifth, Colorado Mesa ran in two runners to close the Ram’s lead 5-4. That was too close for the Rams as they scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead to 10-4.

Mesa couldn’t keep up as in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings, they only scored one run while the Rams put up five more in that span.

With the win, the Rams rematched with West Texas A&M and ASU won 8-3. The Rams went in ready and scored three runs in the first inning. Harris kept up his hot streak and helped ASU go into the fourth up 5-1. Guerrero hit a single and the Rams extended their lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the fourth.

West Texas A&M had two runs in the seventh while the Rams added two runs as well and ended up winning the game 8-3.

Now, the Rams will play either UT Permian Basin or Lubbock Christian in the Super Regional next weekend.
