LOUISVILLE, KY – Angelo State shortstop Laylonna Applin has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II Player of the Week after a dominant offensive performance at the DII First Pitch Invitational in Conroe, the organization announced Wednesday.
Applin, a sophomore, posted a .667 batting average and a 1.733 slugging percentage while driving in a Division II-leading 14 runs. She recorded 10 hits, including eight for extra bases, as she helped lead the No. 11 Rambelles to a strong start to the season.
She is the first Rambelle to receive the national weekly honor since Paxton Scheurer on March 22, 2022. The award follows her first career conference-level Player of the Week recognition.
