Three Angelo State Players Named to NFCA All-Region First Team

LOUISVILLE, KY — Angelo State standouts Cheyenne Floyd, Tatiana Trotter, and Laylonna Applin were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-South Central Region First Team on Wednesday, marking the most first-team selections for the Rambelles in a single season since 2022.

Floyd earned first-team honors for the second consecutive year after posting a 25-6 record with a 1.69 ERA. The senior right-hander has struck out 179 batters in 161.2 innings while limiting opponents to a conference-best .178 batting average. Floyd has tallied two no-hitters this season and reached eight or more strikeouts in 10 appearances. She closed the regular season with a complete-game shutout of then-No. 1 West Texas A&M. Her career marks at ASU include a 53-25 record and 460 strikeouts — second-most in program history.

Trotter, an All-Lone Star Conference First Team and Gold Glove honoree, earned her first NFCA First Team selection after being named to the second team last year. The senior outfielder is batting .325 with 13 home runs, 45 RBIs, and a .650 slugging percentage. She ranks second on the team in walks, slugging, and homers. Trotter was named LSC Hitter of the Week on March 11 after hitting .615 with nine RBIs and six runs scored over a three-game stretch.

Applin, the team’s starting shortstop, was named to the All-Region First Team for the first time in her career. The Health Science Professions major leads Angelo State with a .436 batting average, an .866 slugging percentage, and a .510 on-base percentage. Her 149 total bases rank third nationally, and she has struck out just 13 times in 198 plate appearances. Applin was also named NFCA National Player of the Week after driving in 14 runs and slugging 1.733 during opening weekend.

The Rambelles (44-12) are the No. 3 seed in the South Central Regional and will open NCAA Tournament play Wednesday night against Colorado Mesa.
