Top-Ranked Angelo State Dominates All-LSC Awards With 19 Honors

SAN ANGELO, TX — Top-ranked Angelo State was well-represented Wednesday night at the Lone Star Conference Baseball Championship banquet, with 15 Rams earning a combined 19 awards, including Coaching Staff of the Year honors for head coach Kevin Brooks and his staff.

Brooks and assistants Adam Foster, Sam Mote, Jackson Berry, and Ramsey Koschak were named LSC Coaching Staff of the Year after guiding Angelo State to a 41-7 overall record and the LSC regular season title. It marks the seventh time Brooks and his staff have received the honor.

The Rams led the conference with three student-athletes named to the LSC All-Academic Team: senior Ethan Flodstrom (management), graduate student Jacob Guerrero (professional accountancy), and graduate Nick Wilson (MBA). All-Academic selections are voted on by the league’s sports information directors and require at least a 3.30 GPA and participation in at least 50% of team games.

Angelo State also placed three players on the LSC All-Defensive Team: junior catcher Blake Wilhoite, senior first baseman Tayten Tredaway, and senior outfielder Weston Valasek.

Twelve Rams received all-conference recognition, including four First Team selections:

• Dax Dathe – Starting pitcher

• Austin Beck – Second base

• Jacob Guerrero – Outfield

• Chase Pendley – Designated hitter

Four players were named to the Second Team: Alizaeh Gutierrez, Lane Hutchinson, Flodstrom, and Valasek. Third Team selections included Wilson, Ryan Free, Luke Olson and Justin Harris.

Angelo State enters the postseason as the LSC’s top seed and will begin tournament play later this week.
