WALL, TX — The Wall Hawks head to Eula on Thursday, May 8, to face off with Eula for the Baseball Area Championship. This matchup will only be a one-game series to determine who heads to the Regional Semifinals.
Wall continues its romp through West Texas after handling Comfort in the Bi-District Round. Wall beat Comfort 11-1 in Game 1 and 14-2 in Game 2 to claim the Bi-District Championship. This Hawks' squad has high expectations again this season as they attempt to return to Austin for another state championship.
Wall's Catcher, Gunnar Dillard, spoke about his team at practice on Wednesday:
Wall won its first state championship back in 2019 before falling in the State Finals in 2023. There are still players on this year's roster who played at Dell Diamond two seasons ago.
The Hawks look to avenge their Area Round exit from a year ago. Last year's matchup was also a one-game series. While not typical for the baseball playoffs, most playoff matchups are three-game series, some coaches will flip for a one-game series if they believe that their team isn't prepared for a team like Wall. Coach Jeremy Gordon said that it's almost fate that the Hawks are in this position again. He said that Wall has the opportunity to put last season's loss to bed finally.
Here's Head Coach Jeremy Gordon on his thoughts ahead of the Area Round Matchup:
The Hawks will lean heavily on their dominant offense again tonight against Henrietta. Wall continues to show that they can get on base at any point in the ball game, and that contributes to a lot of scoring.
Wall faces off with Henrietta at Eula High School on Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
