Angelo State Baseball Named Top Seed, Host of Regional Tournament This Week

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State University baseball team was named the No. 1 seed in the South Central Region during Sunday night’s NCAA Division II Selection Show.

The Rams will host the No. 4 St. Edward’s-No. 5 Lubbock Christian loser at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.

ASU (45-8) won the Lone Star Conference Tournament Title on Saturday with a 12-9 win over St. Edward’s in the final. The Rams dropped their opening game of the tournament 12-5 to Lubbock Christian before responding with four straight wins, including one over LCU and two over St. Edward’s.

UT Tyler will host the other half of the South Central Regional as the No. 2 seed, welcoming in No. 3 Colorado Mesa and No. 6 Metro State-Denver.

Both of the three-team regional tournaments will have a double-elimination format. The winners will meet in the Super Regionals on May 22-24.

The rest of the regional schedule and ticket information will be announced later Monday.
