Concho Valley Qualifiers for UIL State Tennis Championships

SAN ANTONIO, TX — Olfen’s Grant Halsell made school history as its first-ever athlete to qualify for a UIL state competition when he won the Region II-1A tennis title last week.

The freshman earned a first-round bye at the Class 1A state tennis tournament Thursday at the Blossom Tennis Center in San Antonio, where he’ll play the winner of Knippa’s Cameron Santos and Booker’s Yule Tenner.

Halsell highlights a strong contingent of Concho Valley athletes heading to the state tournament, which as usual is led by Mason with nine entrants.

Mason, home to more state titles in tennis than any other school with over 100 championships, has two entrants in every division in 2A except for girls singles.

Reagan County is second from our area with four entrants at the 2A tournament.

Wall has three entrants in the 3A tournament, which will be held at the Annemarie Tennis Center.
