TALLAHASSEE, FL — The Texas Tech softball team continued its historic season Friday with a 2-1 win over Florida State to advance to the College World Series for the first time in program history.
The No. 12-ranked Red Raiders were playing in the Super Regionals for the first time, but they looked like veterans on the road against No. 5 Florida State.
They pulled off a 3-0 shutout in Game 1, then completed the sweep in Game 2.
Just like in the opener, NiJaree Canady was dominant in the pitcher’s circle. The junior allowed only three hits in seven innings, and she didn’t allow a run until the final inning when the Seminoles made a late push.
Tech took control early with a run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Alana Johnson and another in the fifth on an RBI single by Demi Elder.
Tech improved its record to 50-12 and will now continue its breakthrough season next week in Oklahoma City at the College World Series.
