Mejia Named New Head Football Coach, AD at Colorado City

COLORADO CITY, TX — Daniel Mejia has been named the new head football coach and athletic director for the Colorado City Wolves.

Colorado ISD made the announcement Wednesday that Mejia had been promoted from offensive coordinator.

Mejia, who was hired as an assistant coach last year, will replace Monty Leaf, who spent two years at Colorado City.

The Wolves have struggled in recent years, including a 2-8 record last season. Colorado City hasn’t won more than two games in a season since it went 10-2 in 2018.

Colorado City competes in Class 2A Division I.

Mejia has 28 years of coaching experience, including stops at Memphis, Hedley, Bovina, Ozona, Sonora, San Angelo Lake View and Miles.

He has twice been a part of teams that reached the state quarterfinals.

“I believe in building programs based on discipline, teamwork, and integrity,” Mejia said. “Success on the field begins with building strong relationships and helping young people grow into responsible, confident leaders.”

Mejia and his wife, Amy, have been married for 18 years and have three sons, Alex, Gavin, and Ace.
