STEPHENVILLE, TX — The Wall Hawks could not overcome an offensive hot streak from Boyd in Game 2 of the 3A Div II State Semifinals on Friday night. Despite a back-and-forth contest through most of the game, an explosive 6th inning from Boyd saw the Hawks fall in Game 2, 9-3.
After a scoreless 3.5 innings, Boyd finally broke the stalemate with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 4th inning.
Wall battled back in the top of the 5th inning when a couple of singles and walks loaded the bases. Caleb Braden then hit a 2-RBI single to the outfield to score two runs. The Hawks took a 3-2 lead heading to the bottom of the 5th inning.
Unfortunately for Wall, Boyd figured something out offensively and scored two more in the 5th and then exploded in the 6th with five runs. There was some controversy after some interference on the base path caused a huddled group of clueless umpires to decide to award Boyd with an extra base after the runner had already been called out at home. That 9-3 advantage would hold until the end.
Wall couldn't muster the juice on offense in the top of the 7th inning and fell 9-3.
The Hawks now face elimination in a winner-take-all Game 3 being played on Saturday, May 31, at Tarleton State in Stephenville. First pitch in that matchup is scheduled for 4 p.m.
