Sonora, Goldthwaite Punch Tickets to 7 on 7 State Tournament

SONORA, TX — The Sonora Broncos and Goldthwaite Eagles each qualified for the 7 on 7 football state tournament over the weekend.

With two spots up for grabs at Sonora’s qualifying tournament, competition was fierce to earn a ticket to College Station.

After pool play, Sonora and Junction met in one qualifier final, while Goldthwaite and Eldorado met in the other.

Sonora edged Junction 22-20, and Goldthwaite clipped Eldorado 25-20.

Sonora and Goldthwaite will now join Brady and Iraan as the teams from our region that have qualified for the state tournament.

This will be the fifth appearance at state for Sonora, all of them coming since 2018. This will be Goldthwaite’s second appearance.

There are more qualifying tournaments in the next few weeks, so more teams from our area will have a chance to punch their ticket.

The state tournament will be held June 26-28 in College Station.
