AUSTIN, TX — Four Texas Longhorns were selected Monday during the final day of the 2025 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, bringing the program’s total to five draftees this year.
Pitcher Jared Spencer and infielder Jalin Flores were both selected in the 11th round. Spencer was taken 322nd overall by the Toronto Blue Jays, while Flores went 330th to the St. Louis Cardinals. Catcher Rylan Galvan followed in the 13th round, going 376th overall to the Chicago White Sox. Right-handed pitcher Grayson Saunier was picked in the 17th round by the Houston Astros with the 516th overall selection.
The quartet joins outfielder Max Belyeu, a Competitive Balance Round B (No. 74 overall) pick by the Colorado Rockies, as Texas has now had at least five players drafted in four of the past five years.
Spencer, a hard-throwing left-hander from Centreville, Michigan, spent three seasons at Indiana State before transferring to Texas. In his lone season with the Longhorns, he posted a 4-1 record and a 3.27 ERA across 10 starts, striking out 66 batters in 52 1/3 innings. He held opponents to a .215 average before a shoulder injury sidelined him for the final six weeks of the season.
Flores, one of the most prolific power hitters in Texas program history, hit 35 home runs and drove in 133 runs over three seasons. He batted .270 in his career and ranks fifth in school history in home runs. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound infielder hit 18 homers during a standout 2024 season, earning All-America honors.
Galvan capped off his college career with a breakout year, batting .296 with a 1.065 OPS. He hit 15 home runs in 2025, the most by a Texas catcher since 1992, and led the team in seven offensive categories. Galvan, who also earned All-SEC First Team and Third Team All-America honors, finished his career with a .279 average, 27 home runs, and 103 RBIs across 143 games.
Saunier transferred to Texas after two seasons at Ole Miss and became a key bullpen arm in 2025. The 6-foot-4 right-hander recorded a 2-0 record, 3.86 ERA, and one save in 12 appearances. In SEC play, he limited opponents to a .188 batting average and posted a 0.99 WHIP.
The five Texas draftees have until July 28 to sign with their respective organizations.
