Cowboys Suffer Injury Scare to Left Tackle

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Dallas Cowboys had an injury scare with one of their offensive linemen in training camp.

Second-year left tackle Tyler Guyton suffered a knee injury Monday at training camp, leaving the team and fans in fear that he tore his ACL.

After an MRI, Guyton did not have a tear but instead a bone fracture. This ends up putting his recovery at 4-6 weeks, and it will not require surgery. The Cowboys play the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 4 in a little over five weeks.

Guyton, a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma, was on and off the field during his rookie season. He was rotated out with his struggles and had a couple injuries. Guyton also had a problem with penalties in Year 1.

With another offensive lineman, Robert Jones, being injured as well, the Cowboys really can’t risk rushing Guyton back for Week 1. Look for Asim Richards or rookie Ajani Cornelius unless the Cowboys plan to reshuffle the line. Tyler Smith has played left tackle for the Cowboys but has primarily been the left guard.

If the shuffle is something the Cowboys look to do, they could sign a free agent to fill a potential void. Dallas could look at Brandon Scherff, who is 33 and has been healthy. They could also look at Will Hernandez, who played for Klayton Adams, the Cowboys current offensive coordinator, in Arizona.
