Lubbock-Cooper Ends Central’s Three-Peat Bid at Nita Vannoy Tournament

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Central Lady Cats’ attempt at a third straight Nita Vannoy Memorial Volleyball Tournament title fell one set short Saturday with a three-set loss to Lubbock-Cooper in the final.

Central took the opening set, but the Lady Pirates battled back for a 23-25, 25-23, 25-17 win in the Gold Division final at Central’s Babe Didrikson Gym.

Lubbock-Cooper also held off Wall in a three-setter in the semifinals.

Central didn’t drop a set until the final, which included sweeps over TLCA and El Paso Jefferson on Saturday.

The Lady Cats will leave the tournament with a record of 11-3. Lubbock-Cooper improved to 11-4.

Wall topped El Paso Jefferson to finish in third place.

Seminole beat TLCA to win the consolation title.

In the Silver Division, Andrews won the title, while Lake View dropped both of its matches.

Veribest defeated Cedar Hill to win the Bronze Division.

Buena Vista beat Sonora to win the Bronze Challenger Division.
