LUBBOCK, TX — One of the most anticipated football seasons in Texas Tech history begins on Saturday. After an offseason filled with shocking moves in the transfer portal, the Red Raiders bring one of the nation's top transfer classes to the field for the first time.
No. 23 Texas Tech officially opens the 2025 football season at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, at Jones AT&T Stadium. This meeting will be the first all-time between the two programs, and the first Texas Tech has faced from the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).

"Y'all heard me say it in the last probably month, I've never been more excited about a season," Texas Tech Head Coach Joey McGuire said on Monday. "For a lot of reasons. Roster, talent, more than anything, just the men we brought in to this building, and the growth of the guys returning with all the new guys."
In what seems to be the final season of the transfer portal's "Wild West" era, the Red Raiders took advantage during the offseason to bring big names to the table for top dollar. Red Raider Nation will see if those price tags were warranted on Saturday when Arkansas-Pine Bluff comes to Lubbock.
New faces fans can look forward to debuting on Saturday include OLB's David Bailey and Romelio Height, DL Lee Hunter, and OL Howard Sampson.
"We're really excited for the new coaches and the new players to experience our first game in Jones AT&T," McGuire continued. "The best place in the country to watch a football game is Jones AT&T and being a part of it. And so can't wait to see everybody Saturday."
Texas Tech Athletics reported that there are still some single-game tickets available for the season opener. However, less than 1,000 remain. Tickets can be purchased online at TexasTech.com or by speaking to a ticket sales representative at 806-742-TECH.
"We'll be ready. We have work to do," McGuire concluded. This is a big week. I know the guys are really excited, but I cannot wait to get to Saturday and finally get this season underway."
