No. 10 Angelo State Rams Host Emporia State in Home Opener

SAN ANGELO, TX — The No. 10-ranked Angelo State University football team will make its home debut at 6 p.m. Saturday against Emporia State at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field.

The Rams lost to Emporia 17-12 in their first-ever meeting last year when they played in Kansas as part of ASU’s 0-2 start to the season.

ASU reeled off nine wins in a row after that to win an undefeated Lone Star Conference title.

The Rams avenged one of last year’s early losses when they beat Fort Hays State 28-7 last week.

Now they have a chance for a revenge sweep of the two Kansas schools.

Emporia is coming off a 27-7 win over Minot State (North Dakota) last week. The Hornets came out firing as quarterback Ben Harris was 37-of-52 passing for 292 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.

ASU didn’t throw nearly as much in its win with Braeden Fuller going 12-of-19 for 177 yards and three TDs with one INT.

Jayden Jones led the Rams’ rushing attack with 11 carries for 79 yards.

It was the 50th win of ASU head coach Jeff Girsch’s career, making him the fastest Rams coach to accomplish that feat. He has a record of 50-17 since taking over the program late in the 2018 season.

ASU will open LSC play next week on the road against Eastern New Mexico.
