BROWNWOOD, TX — The Wall Hawks got their revenge against the Brownwood Lions on Friday at Gordon Wood Stadium, 35-10.
The storms stayed away, but the Hawks brought their own against the Lions, a game they lost last season, 17-7.
Hawks quarterback Landon York found Reid Robertson twice to get the Hawks out to an early 14-0 lead.
The Lions did have a blocked punt that set up a near touchdown. Quarterback Judson Coalson rolled out and tossed a pass to Durham Brown who was ruled to have not controlled the ball before rolling out of bounds. The Lions ended up settling for a field goal to make the score, 14-3, just before halftime.
Even though time was running out, the Hawks took advantage of the little bit of time left on the clock. York found Haygen Barbee who got down field in a hurry. With 31 seconds left in the half, York found Kellen Oliver for a 14-yard touchdown to make the score 21-3.
The Hawks defense wanted the last laugh before halftime, and Dylan Sellers got himself a sack before heading to the locker room.
After the half, each team traded interceptions. Coalson was picked off by Levi King and, on the ensuing Hawks drive, York was picked off by Calvin Webster. Wall's Oliver snagged another interception off a pass that was pitched to the running back.
With 9:04 left in the fourth quarter, Wall went with a heavy personnel, and Sellers sealed the drive with a 2-yard touchdown run to extend the Hawks' lead to 28-3.
On the Lions' next drive, Coalson was picked off again by Gunner King, who took the ball all the way back to the 4-yard line, and the Hawks ran in another score to make it 35-3.
The Lions ended the game on a positive with a 3-yard touchdown to Carson Noe with 3:51 left in the game, but the damage had been done.
Next week, the Wall Hawks travel to Tuscola and take on the Jim Ned Indians.
