No. 18 Angelo State Heads to Colorado for Pair of Road Matches

SAN ANGELO, TX — The No. 18-ranked Angelo State women's soccer team will look to rebound this week with two road matchups in Colorado, facing CSU Pueblo on Thursday and MSU Denver on Saturday.

The Rambelles (0-1-1) will travel to Pueblo for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Sept. 11 at Art and Lorraine Gonzales Stadium, followed by a 1 p.m. match at MSU Denver’s Assembly Athletic Complex on Sept. 13.

Angelo State is seeking its first win of the 2025 season after opening the year with a draw and a loss. Freshman Wrilyn Shippey recorded the team’s first goal of the season—also the first of her collegiate career.

The Rambelles return their top four goal scorers from last season: Sanai Stewart (7), Madison Bourzikas (5), Abby James (4), and Christiana Clark (4). Stewart and senior defender Harper Saxon were both named LSC Players to Watch, while All-American Tina Clark returns to anchor a defensive unit that notched 13 shutouts and allowed just eight goals in the 2024 regular season.

Veteran leadership continues with seniors Saxon and Melyna Martinez serving as team captains. Head coach Travis McCorkle is in his 18th season leading the program, assisted by Harold Munoz (9th year), and first-year graduate assistants Nayeli Celedon and Isabel Robben.

ASU finished 14-2-5 last season, went unbeaten in Lone Star Conference play (10-0-3), and reached the South-Central Regional final for the first time in program history. The Rambelles were picked to finish second in the LSC preseason poll behind DBU.

Thursday’s matchup marks the fifth all-time meeting between the Rambelles and ThunderWolves, with the series tied 2-2. ASU won the most recent meeting 3-1 in August 2022.

CSU Pueblo went 4-10-4 last season and failed to qualify for the RMAC Tournament. The ThunderWolves return standout forward Caytlynn Garland, who has already found the net this season. In goal, newcomers Miya Begay and Alva Hellenius have combined for 12 saves and four goals allowed.

The Roadrunners hold a 2-1-1 advantage in the all-time series, with the most recent contest ending in a 0-0 draw on Sept. 19, 2024.

MSU Denver posted a 10-4-7 record last season and reached the RMAC Tournament with an 8-2-2 conference record. This fall, Jenelle Arenibas has tallied the team’s lone goal, while goalkeeper Kayla Caballero has recorded 11 saves and a 0.786 save percentage through early action.
