OZONA, TX — Ozona standout running back Christian Villarreal received a statewide honor for the second time Friday when he was presented with the Build Ford Tough Class 2A Player of the Week award during a ceremony at Ozona High School
Villarreal earned the award after rushing for 371 yards and seven touchdowns in the Lions’ 65-0 season-opening win over McCamey.
He also earned the award last year when he rushed for 361 yards and six TDs against McCamey.
Incredibly, Villarreal actually topped this year’s award-winning performance with 373 rushing yards in a 76-29 win over Eldorado in Week 2. He added 134 receiving yards, including a 99-yard TD catch.
In Week 3 against the Brady Bulldogs, he added 230 more rushing yards last week, giving him 974 yards after just three weeks.
With 26 yards tonight against Harper, he’ll top the 1,000-yard mark.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Villarreal had 1,438 yards last year in nine games.
All five of Ozona’s starting offensive linemen returned with Villarreal, giving the Lions perhaps the most feared rushing attack in the Concho Valley.
Ozona is aiming for its first district title since 2016.
