Angelo State Volleyball Opens LSC Play this Weekend

SAN ANGELO, TX — The No. 20-ranked Angelo State volleyball team returns to Junell Center-Stephens Arena this weekend to open Lone Star Conference play after a seven-match road trip. The Belles will face St. Mary’s and St. Edward’s in a two-match homestand that doubles as Youth Sports Weekend.

Children in eighth grade and younger will receive free admission if they wear a youth sports jersey and are accompanied by a parent or guardian. Accompanying parents will receive discounted tickets.

Angelo State (4-3) went 0-2 at the LSC Challenge in Canyon last week. The Belles rallied from an 0-2 deficit to force a fifth set against UT Tyler before ultimately falling 16-14. In their second match, ASU struggled offensively, hitting .073 in a straight-set loss to No. 10 West Texas A&M.

Junior outside hitter Madi Parrish was named AVCA Division II National Player of the Week following her standout performance at the Kathleen Brasfield Invitational. Parrish tallied 54 kills, hit .412 for the weekend, and recorded two double-doubles, earning LSC Offensive Player of the Week honors as well. Parrish, an AVCA Second Team All-American in 2024, was also selected as the LSC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.

The Belles were picked first in the LSC Preseason Poll, earning 933 points and 30 of 54 first-place votes—their first time as preseason favorites since 2021. Angelo State is returning 13 letterwinners, including two All-Americans (Parrish and middle blocker Demi Carter) and All-LSC performer Sydney Thornton.

ASU continues to be one of the biggest draws in Division II volleyball. The Belles led the nation in opening-weekend attendance with 5,152 fans at the Kathleen Brasfield Invitational, including 3,123 for their season-opening sweep of Arkansas-Monticello.

The Belles added three transfers — Gabi Ashcraft (Palm Beach Atlantic), Madison Scrivner (North Texas) and Indiah Maroney (Liberty) — along with four freshmen: Chanelle Cancel, Mary Johnson, Annie Witt and Journi Jones.
