No. 9 Texas A&M Stifles Auburn for First SEC Win

COLLEGE STATION, TX — No. 9 Texas A&M fought through a defensive battle to notch its first conference win of the season, defeating Auburn 16-10 before the fifth-largest crowd in Kyle Field history on Saturday.

With the victory, the Aggies improved to 4-0 for the first time since 2016 and opened Southeastern Conference play 1-0 for the fourth consecutive year.

Senior running back Le’Veon Moss led the Texas A&M offense, rushing 21 times for 139 yards and scoring the team’s lone touchdown. Junior wide receiver KC Concepcion caught seven passes for 113 yards, while sophomore quarterback Marcel Reed completed 15 of 22 passes for 201 yards.

Defensively, the Aggies dominated the Tigers, holding them to 177 yards of total offense and 0-for-13 on third down. Junior linebacker Taurean York led the team with seven tackles, including two for loss, along with three quarterback pressures and his first sack of the season. The defense finished with five sacks and six tackles for loss.

Graduate kicker Randy Bond provided the difference with three field goals from 33, 49 and 44 yards, marking his seventh career game with three or more makes. His final kick, with 2:42 remaining, sealed the win for the Aggies after Auburn had pulled within three points early in the fourth quarter on a 2-yard rushing score following a 72-yard interception return.

Reed surpassed 4,000 career yards of total offense, becoming the 16th player in program history to reach the mark and the second-fastest Aggie to do so behind 2012 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel. Saturday also marked the first time since Sept. 28, 2024, that Texas A&M had both a 100-yard rusher and receiver in the same game.

Bond’s three field goals moved him past Randy Bullock (2008-11) for No. 2 on the school’s career field goal chart with 64. The Aggies have now held Auburn to 10 points or fewer in each of the Tigers’ last three trips to Kyle Field.

Texas A&M will look to stay unbeaten when it hosts Mississippi State on Oct. 4 at 6:30 p.m.
