ARLINGTON, TX — Four quarters and an overtime period were not enough to determine a winner in Micah Parsons' return to Dallas. The Cowboys (1-2-1) and Green Bay Packers (2-1-1) duked it out on Sunday night but found themselves at a stalemate when everything was said and done. The two teams tied, 40-40.
Parsons, who was traded to Green Bay last month, recorded a key sack in overtime that helped stall a potential Dallas game-winning drive. Brandon Aubrey’s 22-yard field goal gave the Cowboys a brief lead in the extra period before Green Bay’s Brandon McManus answered with a 34-yarder as time expired.
“It’s hard to kind of wrap my head around it because I know I’d feel a hell of a lot worse if it was a loss,” Prescott said to ESPN after the tie. “But I’m not satisfied. Not that I would be if we won.”
Prescott and Packers quarterback Jordan Love traded blows all night in a back-and-forth thriller that featured seven consecutive lead-changing touchdowns in regulation. Love finished with 337 passing yards and three touchdowns, all to Romeo Doubs, while Prescott threw for 319 yards and three scores of his own.
The game was tied 27-27 late in the fourth when Javonte Williams scored on a 1-yard wildcat run to put Dallas in front. Two more touchdowns — one by each team — set up McManus’ 53-yard kick as time expired to force overtime.
Green Bay (2-1-1) improved to 5-0-1 all-time at AT&T Stadium, including its Super Bowl XLV win in 2011.
“Doesn’t feel good, feels kind of weird,” Love said. “Feels weird to go through a full game and end in a tie.”
The 40-40 result was the NFL’s second-highest scoring tie, behind only the Raiders’ 43-43 draw with the Boston Patriots in 1964. It was the Cowboys’ first tie since 1969 and the Packers’ first since 2018.
Josh Jacobs rushed for two touchdowns and racked up 157 total yards for Green Bay, while George Pickens caught eight passes for 134 yards and two scores for Dallas, which played without star receiver CeeDee Lamb (ankle).
The game also featured a rare two-point defensive conversion when Juanyeh Thomas blocked a PAT attempt and Markquese Bell returned it for Dallas’ first-ever such play.
Next up, the Cowboys travel to New York next week to play the Jets. The Packers head to their bye week for some much-needed rest to get some players healthy before hosting the Cincinnati Bengals on October 12.
