SAN ANGELO, TX - An Angelo State University unified flag football team, the Angelo State Incredibles, made up of ASU students and local Special Olympics athletes, has qualified to represent Texas at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minnesota.
The Angelo State Incredibles recently hosted a Special Olympics qualifying event that featured flag football and basketball games against a unified team from Texas Tech University. ASU won both the flag football game, 51-39, and the basketball game, 51-49. Winning the flag football game qualified the ASU team to represent Texas in that sport at the Special Olympics USA Games June 20-26, 2026.

ASU students on the team include:
- Alex Lopez - Kinesiology grad student from San Antonio
- Jacqueline Bernard - Nursing major from Crane
- Anthony Nguyen - Management major from Mansfield
- Xavier Urias - Kinesiology grad student from McCamey
- Darion Cooper - Spanish major from Markham, Ill.
- Brenden Woljevach - Kinesiology major from Florence
The Angelo State Incredibles are coached by ASU alum Kenneth Gunnels and Dorothy Morris, Special Olympics representatives, and Matt Kirkham, associate director of ASU University Recreation (UREC).
The Flag Football events at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games will take place at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn.
