SAN ANGELO, TX — After back-to-back losses, the Angelo State University football team has fallen to No. 21 in this week’s national rankings.
The Rams were ranked as high as No. 5 in the nation in NCAA Division II after a 4-0 start. A loss to UT Permian Basin dropped ASU to No. 12 before last week’s loss to Texas A&M-Kingsville sent the Rams tumbling nine more spots.
Ferris State remains the No. 1 team, followed by Harding, West Florida, Kutztown and Western Colorado.
Central Washington is the highest-ranked Lone Star Conference school in the poll at No. 10 following last week’s win over UTPB, which fell from No. 6 to No. 13.
ASU, which is now 4-2 overall and 2-2 in LSC play, is now likely out of the race for the conference title, and the Rams are in a precarious spot in trying to make the playoffs.
There are five games remaining for ASU in the regular season, beginning with the Rams’ homecoming game at 6 p.m. Saturday against Midwestern State at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field.
