COAHOMA, TX — Another matchup that looked good on paper turned into a blowout on the field.
For the second consecutive week, the undefeated Wall Hawks took on a team with only one loss.
Once again, the No. 2-ranked Hawks absolutely dominated their competition, this time in a 58-0 win at Coahoma on Friday.
This game was likely for the District 4-3A Division II title as Wall entered the game with a 7-0 record, while Coahoma was 6-1. Both teams were off to 1-0 starts in district play.
But Wall showed again why they’re a legitimate contender for the state title.
The Hawks stormed out to a 42-0 lead by halftime, and their defense didn’t budge in the second half, posting their third shutout of the year.
Brady Neal ran for three touchdowns to lead the offense, while Jager Thompson had a 70-yard interception return for a TD to highlight the defensive effort.
Wall quarterback Landon York scored the game’s first TD on a 20-yard scramble, and he also threw two TD passes to Reid Robertson, including a 78-yarder when Robertson turned a quick pass into a runaway score.
Kyler Oneal also had a TD run.
Wall kicker Tyler Klinesmith was 7-of-8 on extra points, and he connected on a 25-yard field goal.
Coahoma nearly got on the scoreboard in the final minutes, but Wall’s Tayson Stucker forced a fumble at the 11-yard line to preserve the shutout.
Wall (8-0 overall, 2-0 in district) will host Grape Creek next week, while Coahoma (6-2, 1-1) will recover during a bye week before traveling to Stanton on Oct. 31.
