Former Central Star QB McIvor Sidelined by Injury for Western Kentucky

RUSTON, LA — Former San Angelo Central star quarterback Maverick McIvor was held out of Tuesday’s win for Western Kentucky.

McIvor was reportedly sidelined by an injury to his non-throwing shoulder during the Hilltoppers’ 28-27 overtime win over Louisiana Tech.

It was an important win for Western Kentucky, which improved to 6-2 and is now bowl eligible.

McIvor had a rough game in his last start when the Hilltoppers were upset 25-6 by Florida International. He was 20-of-31 passing for 159 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions.

Overall, however, the former Central Bobcat and Abilene Christian Wildcat has had a strong season at his new school.

He has thrown for 1,863 yards and 12 TDs with five INTs while completing 67% of his passes.

McIvor is playing his senior season at Western Kentucky after transferring from ACU, where he led the Wildcats last year to their first-ever conference championship at the NCAA Division I FCS level.

McIvor entered the transfer portal after the season and was also offered by Wake Forest, North Texas and Miami (Ohio).

McIvor’s status for the Hilltoppers’ next game is uncertain. They have four games remaining in the regular season, starting at home Saturday, Nov. 1, against New Mexico State.

Western Kentucky’s most high-profile game remaining is Nov. 22 at LSU.
