Lake View Scores School-Record 76 Against Big Spring, Sets Up District-Title Game

BIG SPRING, TX — The Lake View Chiefs set a school record for points Friday in a 76-49 win on the road over Big Spring.

Most importantly, the win sets up a district-title showdown next week with longtime rival Andrews at San Angelo Stadium.

Lake View improved to 7-2 overall for its best start to a season since 1996. The Chiefs are also 2-0 in District 3-4A Division I.

The night actually had an ominous beginning when Lake View allowed Big Spring to recover the opening kickoff.

The Chiefs defense made a goal-line stand at the 2-yard line, however, and Lake View drove 98 yards, capped by Izaiah Rios’s 85-yard touchdown run that sparked a scoring explosion.

Lake View led 28-7 at the end of the first quarter and 49-28 at halftime. The Chiefs took a 62-35 lead into the fourth quarter.

Lake View quarterback Chris Alvizo threw for 302 yards and five touchdowns on 20-of-31 passing. He also had a TD run.

Braylon White had six catches for 119 yards and four TDs. DJ Munoz also had a TD grab.

Rios had 13 carries for 155 yards and two TD runs, along with three catches for 62 yards and a 90-yard kickoff return for a TD.

Big Spring scored on the final play of the first half, then scored on its opening drive of the second half to pull within 49-35.

That was the last time the game was remotely in question as Lake View responded with a 70-yard drive, capped by White's 18-yard TD catch to extend the lead to 56-35.

Lake View's Cristian Esparza then had an interception on Big Spring's ensuing drive, one of five turnovers the Chiefs forced.

Juan Ramirez also had an interception, and Lake View recovered three kickoffs on fumbles, including one by Kentrell Johnson that was returned for a score.

The game was a wild one as Big Spring also recovered two kickoffs the Chiefs were unable to secure.

Big Spring quarterback Marcus Rios had four TD runs and two TD passes.

Big Spring fell to 4-4 overall and 0-2 in district. The Steers will play next week at Pecos, which lost 33-23 to Andrews on Friday.
