ROUND ROCK, TX — Concho Valley schools had a strong showing Friday in the Class 1A division at the UIL Cross Country State Championships at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
Menard junior Danni Ruiz took third place in the girls race, while the Garden City girls finished third in the team standings.
On the boys side, Irion County freshman Parker Kramer was fourth and Bronte junior Colton Bilyeu was 10th.
McMullen County won the girls team title with 50 points, followed by Eula with 91 and Garden City with 126.
McMullen also had the individual girls champ, London Yanity, who won the race by 17 seconds in a time of 11:37.9. Jayton’s Jace Chisum was the runner-up.
Eula won the boys team title with 78 points, edging McMullen County’s 82. Miller Grove was third with 118. Eden finished 12th.
Comstock’s Sebastian Talamantez crushed the field to win the individual title in 16:19.7, which was 40 seconds ahead of runner-up Brett Maclas from Neches.
Other Concho Valley finishers in the girls race included Irion County’s Presley Parker in 21st, Menard’s Taytum Chambless in 29th, Garden City’s Claire Eggemeyer in 34th, Irion County’s Harper McDowell in 35th, Garden City’s Sadie Fuchs in 38th, Garden City’s Emily Schwartz in 39th, Blackwell’s Addison Dove in 51st, Garden City’s Tori Anderson in 59th, Garden City’s Sophia Sullivan in 63rd, Garden City’s Landry Baker in 98th, Irion County’s Natalee Hernandez in 108th, and Garden City’s Melanie Gomez in 125th.
Other Concho Valley finishers on the boys side included Veribest’s Tucker Cauley in 21st, Eden’s Jorge Mendez in 31st, Garden City’s Thomas Hillger in 33rd, Veribest’s Jesse Hight in 60th, Rocksprings’ Joshua Montoya in 64th, Eden’s Joseph Clarke in 81st, Eden’s Mauro Ponce in 95th, Eden’s Julian Morales in 117th, Eden’s Cyler Timmons in 119th, Eden’s Blake Teeple in 120th and Eden’s Jarred Fernandez in 134th.
