BANGS, TX — The Wall Lady Hawks traveled to Bangs on Tuesday night for their second-round playoff matchup. Despite a tight match throughout, the Lady Hawks swept Tolar to claim an Area Championship, 25-23, 26-24, 25-19.
"We have to give some respect to Tolar," Coach Kimberly Branch said. "We knew they were going to be a tough team. They had some really big power hitters, but I think our girls adjusted well."
Tolar proved a much more formidable opponent than last weekend. In the opening set, the Lady Hawks traded multiple points back and forth before finally winning the break point to put Wall up by two points. The Lady Hawks claimed the first set, 25-23.
Tolar took an early 4-1 lead in the second set. Wall won three in a row to take a 6-5 lead later. Tolar struck back with a break point to lead 7-6. The back and forth continued until Wall took control midway through the set. Wall reached 20 points first, but Tolar did not give up. Wall finally broke free at the end, and the Lady Hawks won the set, 26-24.
Tolar came out like a team possessed in the third set. Those ladies proved they would not let their season end without a fight. After trading points for the first half of the set, Tolar rattled off four in a row to take a 17-15 lead.
However, Wall would not be denied. The Lady Hawks took back the advantage by scoring three in a row, the last being a rally that lasted for almost a full minute. Up 19-17, Wall never looked back. That final rally took all the wind out of Tolar’s sails as the Lady Hawks took the third set and the Area Championship, 25-19.
"This is a fun team. We are scrappy and we fight. That was a big win for us," Branch concluded.
The Lady Hawks advance to the Regional Semifinals with the win. Wall will play Idalou at a site and time to be determined.
