Wall Lady Hawks Down No. 1 Holliday to Claim Regional Title

STEPHENVILLE, TX — The No. 6-ranked Wall Lady Hawks upset No. 1 Holliday on Tuesday night to win the first regional title in program history.

Wall took control early but let Holliday crawl back in the third set. The Lady Hawks bounced back in a big way in the fourth set to cement their spot in the state semifinals, 25-22, 25-14, 15-25, 25-16.

The Lady Hawks battled through a slow start in the first set. Holliday took an early advantage and scored 20 points first. However, the Lady Hawks rallied to take the lead and eventually took the opening set, 25-22.

Wall's strong showing continued into Set 2. After a back-and-forth through most of the frame, Peyton Dickson served eight points in a row for the Lady Hawks, including five aces, to give Wall a two-set advantage, 25-14.

Holliday showed why it was the No. 1-ranked team in the state in Set 3. The Lady Eagles took advantage of some mental slip-ups by Wall to build an early lead. Holliday carried that momentum throughout the third set, pulling away and climbing back into the match, 15-25.

However, Wall would not be denied. The Lady Hawks had zero momentum entering Set 4, but proved they were the team to beat in this side of the bracket. A fierce back-and-forth ensued. Long rallies, several blocks, and superb defense allowed Wall to take the lead. Big blocks by Emery Harper pushed Wall to 20 points first, and the Lady Hawks never looked back. Wall claimed victory in the fourth set, 25-16, and the match, 3-1.

Enough cannot be said about Lexi Kemp and Shyanne Floyd's defense. Kemp, in the libero position, kept the Lady Hawks in the match time after time, while Floyd added an extra spark off the bench. Wall's serves also proved pivotal. Dickson, Kynlee Stevens, and Hadley Kadlacek had several aces at times when the Lady Hawks needed points the most. Overall, it was a great team win.

With the victory, the Lady Hawks advance to the Class 3A Division II state semifinals. Wall will play No. 3 Boyd at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at Wichita Falls Legacy High School.
