COAHOMA, TX — The small town of Coahoma is remarkably sending a second softball player to the University of Texas.
Senior catcher Mia Clemmer signed with the defending national champions during a ceremony Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Coahoma High School.
Clemmer joins her former battery mate, pitcher Hannah Wells, who signed with the Longhorns last year.
Coahoma is home to only about 1,000 residents, but the school has a powerhouse softball program, which has won three straight state titles in Class 3A Division II.
Last year, Clemmer and Wells shared Player of the Year honors on the Texas Sports Writers Association 3A all-state team.
Clemmer has an incredible .592 batting average with 55 home runs through her first three years in high school.
She also has 54 doubles and 167 RBIs. She has drawn 70 walks and struck out only 11 times in 378 plate appearances.
Last year, she struck out just once in 125 trips to the plate, while still hitting for power with 20 home runs. She had a .704 on-base percentage.
Clemmer will join a Texas softball team that won the program’s first national title last spring.
