Texas A&M Survives Scare With Biggest Comeback in School History

COLLEGE STATION, TX — The No. 3-ranked Texas A&M Aggies are still undefeated, but it took the biggest comeback in the history of the program Saturday to keep their perfect record intact.

Trailing 30-3 at halftime against South Carolina, the Aggies improbably stormed all the way back for a 31-30 win at Kyle Field.

A&M is now 10-0 for the first time since 1992, and the Aggies are 7-0 in SEC play for the first time ever.

The comeback began when Marcel Reed threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Izaiah Williams with 11:26 left in the third quarter.

The Aggies’ defense came up with a huge stop on fourth down on the Gamecocks’ ensuing drive, and A&M scored again on a 39-yard pass from Reed to Ashton Bethel-Roman with 4:18 remaining in the third.

Reed then found Nate Boerkircher for a 14-yard TD strike with 2:04 to go in the third quarter.

Suddenly, A&M was within 30-24 with plenty of time to play and Kyle Field’s crowd in a frenzy.

After yet another stop by its defense, A&M scored the go-ahead TD after driving 98 yards when EJ Smith punched it in from 4 yards out for a 31-30 lead with 10:47 remaining.

The Aggies’ defense sealed the wild win with two more stops.

Reed finished with 439 passing yards and three TDs, along with two interceptions.

A&M has two more games left in the regular season, at home next week against Samford, and then at the Texas Longhorns in Austin on Friday, Nov. 28.
