Angelo State 4x400 Relay Runs Third-Fastest Time in Division II History

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State men’s 4x400-meter relay team ran the third-fastest time in NCAA Division II history Saturday at the Crimson and Gold Invitational at Pittsburg State in Kansas.

The team of Jahleel Armstrong, William Opare, Taylor Briggs and Rami Balta ran a time of 3 minutes, 7.92 seconds. It was less than a second behind the record time of 3:07.18, which was set last spring by Pittsburg State at the Division II indoor championships.

ASU’s time was one of seven marks set by the Rams and Rambelles on Saturday that provisionally qualified them for the 2026 indoor national meet.

Opare and Armstrong recorded individual provisionals in the 400-meter dash, finishing first and third, respectively, with times of 47.07 and 47.97.

The Rams' second 4x400 meter relay team of Lamont Reed, Francis Patanpatan, Adrian Nethersole and Bautista Diamante ran a 3:13.02 to also set a provisional mark in the event.

Diamante set an individual provisional mark in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.81 seconds.

Diamante also claimed an event win in the 200 meters with a sprint of 21.69 seconds, while Nethersole took top honors in the 800 meters, clocking a time of 1:52.49.

Freshman Jeremiah King finished third in the shot put, recording a throw of 14.55 meters in his first collegiate meet.

On the women's side, Kylyie Paden tallied a pair of provisional marks, doing so in the high jump (1.67 meters) and the pole vault (3.75 meters).

The Rams and Belles are back in competition on Jan. 16-17 in Lubbock at the Corky Classic hosted by Texas Tech.
