Richardson, Texas — Angelo State sprinter William Opare has been named the Lone Star Conference Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Opare, a native of Accra, Ghana, delivered a standout debut for the Rams at the Crimson and Gold Invitational, posting two NCAA provisional marks and running the fastest 400-meter time in Division II this season at 47.07 seconds. His performance set a new meet record and currently ranks as the second-fastest time in the entire NCAA across all divisions.
He also contributed to Angelo State’s record-setting 4x400-meter relay, which clocked 3:07.92, a meet record, the fastest time in Division II this season, and the third-fastest time ever recorded in Division II history.
Opare and the Rams will resume their indoor season Jan. 16–17 in Lubbock at the Corky Classic, hosted by Texas Tech.
