HOBBS, N.M. — The San Angelo Central boys basketball team lost 73-70 in Hobbs, New Mexico, on Tuesday night, ending the Bobcats’ undefeated start to the season.
Central fell to 12-1 with the loss, while the Hobbs Eagles improved to 6-1.
The Bobcats were coming off a win last weekend in their home tournament, the Doug McCutchen Memorial, where they beat Lake View 74-39 in the final.
Central also won a 96-91 shootout over perennial state power Lubbock Estacado, the No. 4-ranked team in Class 4A.
The Bobcats will try to shake off their first setback when they travel Friday to play at Argyle. Their next home appearance is Jan. 6 when they host Jayton, the No. 1 team in Class 1A.
