No. 1 Wall Girls Basketball Falls to No. 2 Canyon

SAN ANGELO, TX — The No. 1-ranked Wall girls basketball team dropped its second game of the season Tuesday with a 48-35 loss to No. 2 Canyon in Lubbock.

Wall is the top-ranked team in Class 3A, while Canyon is No. 2 in Class 4A.

Tuesday’s game was the first for Wall since it moved to the No. 1 spot. The Lady Hawks began the year ranked No. 22, but they’ve earned numerous wins over state-ranked teams to climb the ladder.

Wall has earned wins over Class 5A Abilene Wylie and Midlothian Heritage, 4A Seminole and Fredericksburg, and 3A Emory Rains.

The Lady Hawks’ only other loss was against Brock, the No. 1 team in 4A.

Wall fell to 12-2 with the loss to Canyon, which is led by former Lady Hawks head coach Tate Lombard.

Canyon improved to 12-1 with the win. The Lady Eagles’ only loss was against 6A Duncanville.

Wall will play again Thursday against Wink to open play in the Andrews Tournament.
