WALL, TX — The UIL released its conference cutoffs in football for the next two school years, and Wall will be moving up to Class 3A Division I — just barely.
Wall turned in an enrollment number of 370, which put it right over the cutoff of 367. Wall will be one of the smallest schools in 3A Division I, which tops out at 549.
Wall has spent the last four school years in 3A Division II, but it was in 3A Division I as recently as the 2021-22 school year.
Wall and San Angelo TLCA — which turned in an enrollment of 458 — will be the Concho Valley’s only schools in 3A Division I, and they’ll likely be in a district with state power Jim Ned, though the new realignments won’t be announced until February.
Another area school on the move will be Brady, which is dropping to Class 2A Division I after it saw a significant drop in enrollment from 292 to 232.
As expected, Sterling City will drop back to the six-man ranks after falling from 136 to 101, just below the cutoff of 105.
San Angelo Central is still firmly a Class 6A school with 2,774 students, well above the cutoff of 2,214. The Bobcats will have a new-look district, however, after Frenship dropped to 5A Division I.
San Angelo Lake View also remains safely in Class 4A Division I with 1,043 students. The 4A Division I range is 896 to 1,304. However, a couple other 4A D-I schools in the region — Big Spring and Brownwood — will be dropping to 4A D-II.
Grape Creek is now our only 3A Division II school with 313 students.
With the exception of Central, Lake View, TLCA, Wall and Grape Creek, every other school in the Concho Valley is in 2A Division I and below.
The small West Texas down of Iraan turned in an enrollment of 98, but it's unknown if the Braves will opt to continue playing 11-man football or make the drop to six-man.
1A Division II defending state champion Jayton will be moving up to 1A D-I, setting up a potential showdown with Gordon. The two teams have won a combined 72 games in a row — 43 by Gordon and 29 by Jayton.
