SAN ANGELO, TX — A memorial service for longtime Angelo State University softball fan Ola McCorkle will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Johnson’s Funeral Home.
She died Dec. 23 at the age of 81.
Ola and her husband, George, became beloved supporters of ASU’s softball team when the sport was reintroduced to the campus in 2002. The Rambelles’ home softball tournament is even named the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge.
George preceded Ola in death in 2012.
Ola, a native of Ballinger, worked for many years as a secretary at ASU and was inducted into its Hall of Honor in 2022.
According to her Hall of Honor bio, she was “a fixture of the ASU Physical Education/Kinesiology department during her time on ASU’s campus. “Ms. Ola” as she was referred to, had a lasting impact on many ASU students and graduates. Her guidance and direction with academic and life matters were instrumental in the success that many of our student-athletes had while at ASU and since graduating.”
In 2008, Ola and George were honored as the ASU Athletics Family of the Year.
Ola was also an active member of the Wesley Trinity United Methodist Church, where she accumulated thousands of hours of volunteer service and helped prepare and serve countless meals through the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen.
