Angelo State’s Foster Field Voted Best in Nation in Division II

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State University’s baseball complex, Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium, has been voted the best in the nation in NCAA Division II.

The voting took place on diviibaseball.com, which had a 16-team bracket. ASU beat Lenda & Glenda Hill Stadium at Hillsdale College in Michigan.

Foster Field, located at 1600 University Ave., seats 4,200 fans. It was originally built in 2000 for a minor league baseball team, the San Angelo Colts.

ASU began playing at the field in 2005 when the baseball program was resurrected.

Foster Field cost $3 million to construct and was built by Jim Anglea, who was the head groundskeeper for the Ballpark at Arlington, the former home of the Texas Rangers. Foster Field was named after Walton A. Foster, who served as the radio broadcaster for the original San Angelo Colts franchise in the 1950s.

The field features a Triple A lighting system and a Spectrum inning-by-inning scoreboard with video display. In addition, the facility has a large press box area, major-league style dugouts and a complete training and locker room facility.

The field also has artificial turf, state-of-the-art bullpens and batting cages for practice and warm-up.
