FORT WORTH, TX — The Concho Valley had an impressive showing Thursday at the UIL Spirit State Championships, led by Sonora’s third-place finish.
Sonora’s cheerleading team totaled 85.47 points to finish behind only New Home and Jewett Leon, which each had 86.3 points. New Home won the tiebreaker to claim the 2A Division I title.
Ballinger and Christoval were also among the 21 teams that qualified for the finals in 2A D-I. Ballinger was sixth with 80.17 points, while Christoval finished 17th with 75.27 points.
In 2A D-II, Falls City won its fourth straight state title with 96.07 points. Eldorado was the only area school to make the finals and placed 17th with 77.33 points.
In 3A D-I, Jim Ned won its first-ever state title at the competition with 94.4 points.
In 3A D-II, Jacksboro claimed its fifth state title with 92.6 points. Wall qualified for the finals and placed 16th with a score of 74.9.
Burleson won the co-ed title with 93.37 points, while the 1A crown went to Munday with 89.77 points.
The competition continues Friday with the qualifying round and finals in 4A and qualifying in 5A.
The event will conclude Saturday with the finals in 5A and qualifying and finals in 6A.
San Angelo Central is scheduled to compete at 11:22 a.m. Saturday.
